About the Event

Since its founding in 2001, the Monaco and the Mediterranean International Symposium (RIMM) has become a prestigious biennial event held at the Oceanographic Museum of Monaco, under the High Patronage of H.S.H. Prince Albert II. This three-day symposium serves as a think tank on the future of the Mediterranean, bringing together a diverse and distinguished group of participants—including anthropologists, philosophers, political leaders, scientists, academics, and representatives of international organizations.

The event is known for fostering deep, open dialogue on the protection of cultural and natural heritage in Mediterranean territories, welcoming both scholars and the public into its conversations.

2013 Theme

The Power of Fire. From Prometheus myth to the future challenges in the Mediterranean Region
Under The High Patronage and in Presence of HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco

This edition was articulated around  three major discussions. The first round table focused on the importance of fire in ancient myths and monotheist religions. The second round table was dedicated to climate change and the subsequent natural risks in the Mediterranean region: volcano eruptions, wild fires, inter-dependance of fire and water and desertification. The third round table engaged in a reflexion on future energies and the role of political leaders in the energy transition.
